Signage, graphics and tinting on windows

Window tinting is an excellent product, offering numerous functions, from shading to tinting to security. Window films have improved over the last 30 years and the quality of some window films manufactured to specifications, offer an excellent, long term solution to numerous glass or window related problems. Glass is a technological breakthrough and it is a pleasure to be associated with and able to work with glass every day.

I have been fortunate enough to have been involved in the window signage business in the US since the 80s. Handcut window graphics and signage was applied to windows in California in 1980.Signage and graphics, such as polyester window tint in reflective and non reflective finishes, were used in this market. Transparent and reflective window signs were very effective as an advertising medium. Stores with good locations and large windows utilised the opportunity to branding their products via signage across these large expanses of glass. Window tinting in conjunction with vinyl films were used to make up these graphics, which were hand cut and were enormous.

A Porsche motor car was created on the windows of a dealership. The size of the Porsche graphic was three times bigger than the actual size of the car. When photographing the scene, we put the Porsche below the window graphic and the window graphic became a huge Porsche which became a landmark in an urban environment. More and more original signwriters turned to computerised vinyl cutting machines some 20 years ago. The beauty of this window graphic was that from the inside you could see through the Porsche window graphic, introducing the advent of see-through signage. The sign industry has flourished and the utilisation of vinyl cutting machines, reverse cutting out film, are available on the market today.

Small signage like doming is very effective in product branding. The signage business and the people in it who understand the business, offer great possibilities, from a company flag to a huge digital screen in the heart of the city.
